About This Race

NEW ELECTION: Voters in Texas’ 50 largest counties will, for the first time, elect 3 members to their central appraisal districts’ boards of directors. Appraisal District (AD). The change was part the constitutional amendment to lower property taxes passed by voters statewide last November.

Beginning in May, the 8 members of DCAD’s board of directors will serve 4 year terms and 3 of the 8 will be elected. The other 5 will be appointed by jurisdictions in the county.

WHAT DOES AD'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS DO?

· Hires the chief appraiser,

· Appoints the Appraisal Review Board,

· Approves the budget,

· Approves contracts,

· Sets general policies.

THE DCAD BOARD OF DIRECTORS DOES NOT:

· Appraise property or

· Review property values.
